Liupanshui

Liupanshui is located in the west of Guizhou, covers an area of 9914 square kms which is composed of Liuzhi special district, Panxian special district, Shuicheng county and Zhongshan district.

　　The region has a total population of 2.55 milion of which 650000 are ethnic groups. Regarded as " the Coal sea of South China", Liupanshu is a heavy industry city where coal industry, power industry, metallurgical industry and building material industry are the major industries.

　　In Liupanshui, the annual average temperature is between 12 and 15 degrees centigrade, it's not cold in winter, not hot in summer either. Different karst formations have created steep mountains, beautiful rivers and grotesque caves. Especially the Miao, Buyi and Yi villages in the region are worth a visit. Many interesting festivals are held annually, namely the Long Horned Miao's Tiao Hua Chang festival from the 5th day to the 15th day of the first lunar month in Suoga, the Small Flowery Miao's Dancing on the mountain slope festival on the 15th day of the second lunar month, the Buyi's Liu Yue Liu on the 6th day of the 6th lunar month, the Yi's Torch Festival on the 24th day of the 6th lunar month and the Buyi's Qi Yue Ban on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month. During the festivals, the minorities in traditional festival dress from the nearby region get together celebrating the festivals, these festivals are particularly worth visiting.

　　In the region, there are different Miao branches, you can see Long Horned Miao, Four Seal Miao, Side Comb Miao, Flowery Miao and Small Flowery Miao, their festival dresses are made of cloth or hemp or wool with fine embroidery and batik, and the traditional costumes are well preserved due to the poor transportation.

　　The region is still poor, so hotels are not really good, so I only recommend this region to experienced travelers and professional photographors.
